Giving Baby Up For Adoption

Although usually done with the child's best interest in mind, giving baby up for adoption is not an easy decision for a new mother. Another option is abortion, but this is a wasteful and a rather dangerous alternative. The child is also denied the right to life. Keeping the child may be too problematic, especially if the child's father is violent or unsuitable and have no intention to support the child. Before giving baby up for adoption, the mother always is given some time and the needed support to make the final decision.

Due to the enormous imbalance in the adoption market, finding a suitable family for the new born child is never a problem because the number of babies available for adoption is far lesser than the number of willing potential parents wanting to adopt a baby. This is especially so with adopting native American children as there are much fewer of those. The guilty feelings that usually come with giving up a child for adoption are understandable but they are not necessary because the agency will locate for the child the best home possible.

If you are overcome by guilt feelings, it would be helpful to know that the adoption agency have access to a large database of families who are willing to adopt the child and a thorough checking procedure will be carried out before they clear a family as potential adopters of a baby. If in the rare event that the child is not placed with the right family, it is not due to your fault.

Be reassured that all the adoption agencies responsible for placing your baby with a suitable home are all registered with the state in which they operate. They are also listed on Child Information Gateway which is a central government website. There is no need to worry about a baby ending up with a substandard agency as they are well regulated. All agencies, be they public or private, are required to be licensed and pass an inspection and analysis before they can be listed on the government website. Otherwise, they are not allowed to practice.

If you receive the support from other people to help you when you are deciding, it may not be that stressful in giving baby up for adoption. One person to get support from could be your physician. He or she will be impartial when helping you to make the choice in the best interests of everyone concerned, especially of the young baby. If you finally decide to go ahead with the adoption, the adoption agency staff will also be on hand to offer you support when giving baby up for adoption.
