Reasons For Adoption - Why Some Babies Are Given Up For Adoption

There can be many and varied reasons for adoption. Invariably, the main one would be the mother feels that she is no longer capable of supporting the new born baby. There are many children who were born into poverty, especially to single parents. And the parents do not see any hope for the child to have any chance of a reasonable life even with any available state support. Some children are born to single mothers who are fearful of the father and she believes that the child would be harmed if it is not removed from the place. Some mothers with psychological problems are required to give up their baby for adoption.

Simple poverty is the number one reason why young mothers need to give up their children for adoption. Even in a developed country, there are still countless people living below the poverty line. The mothers feel that it would be hopeless for the child to grow up in a deprived area without any means of support other than depending on inadequate state welfare systems. Many of these mothers would justify that the child would have a better chance in life with another family.

However, poverty problems are not always the reasons for adoption. There are other factors too. There are many cases where the mother is really afraid of the father who does not fulfill his responsibility as a father but instead behaves jealously and violently towards the mother and child. As a result, the mother believes that the only chance the child has in life is with other parents.

Some mothers have psychological problems which prevent them from bringing up their child in a way that will give the child a normal life. Many of these mothers are aware of their problems and are agreeable to give up their child for adoption. However, there are those that need to be persuaded or even forced to give up their child by a court order. Whatever the case may be, adoptive parents will be in a better position to give a better chance of a normal life to the child.

No matter what the reasons for adoption may be, the mother need not feel guilty about placing the baby with an adoption agency. The decision to give up the baby was made with the best interests of the child in mind. The mother needs to reinforce this fact in her mind and also needs to be reassured that the agencies which place babies with prospective new parents are all registered with the state, and there are many good families to choose from whatever the reasons for adoption.
